What is kvernes stave church?

Kvernes Stave Church is a medieval wooden church located in Kvernes, Norway. It was built in the 14th century and has been standing for over 700 years. The church has a cruciform floor plan and is made up of 12 large and 16 smaller staves, or vertical wooden poles, which support the structure. The walls of the church are made of wooden planks covered with shingles.

The church was originally dedicated to Saint Peter and served as the main church for the Kvernes parish until the 17th century. It was then used as a tool shed and sheepfold before being restored in the 19th century.
